As a professional athlete it is a prerequisite to have good co-operative partners. Without them I would not have been able to get as far as I have come, and I would not have been able to do triathlon full time. I´ll divide my co-operative partners into two categories; Sponsors and Partners.
Partners:
Kaiser Sport og Orthopædi Thomas Kaiser, Jan Steinicke and their crew in this running store in Copenhagen have helped me with my running for over a decade. Together we establish what shoes are best for me by the use of video and a treadmill, and through taking footprints Thomas makes special orthotic insoles for me, which contributes to preventing stress fractures and other injuries due to overuse in feet and legs. Also Thomas’ soles have enabled me to almost completely avoid getting blisters during training. Early in my triathlon career I suffered severely from blisters and almost constantly ran with band aids, sports tape and Compeed on my feet. Most people understand what a relief that has been.
Heino Cykler The premier bike shop in the Copenhagen area, which helps building my Specialized bikes and making sure that all equipment is always in top shape. Especially chief mechanic Tommy Nielsen is a valuable source of knowledge and expertise.
Matt Dixon Matt is my new coach from July 2011.
Ulrich Ghisler Ulrich has been doing mental training with me since 2003, and like Michael he sometimes seems to know me better than my wife - or even myself. We have been working a lot on how I see myself, what stories I tell myself and generally how I can move the limits of my capability.
Brian Martin Rasmussen As something very new in Danish sports at the time, I hired Brian as my part-time PR-assistant back in 2007. I felt the need to optimize my media work in order to get more attention and thus more sponsor exposure, but since I already had enough work on my hands, I decided to outsource it. Brian was a journalism student at the time, with massive interest and knowledge in sports - particularly other sports than football and handball, which get most of the coverage in Denmark. Brian, who has since graduated and works freelance for other top athletes too, is responsible for my press releases, website, news and blog distribution etc. The paradox, however, seems to be that when Brian is doing his job well in pulling coverage my way, which he generally does, I tend to get more busy…
Jesper Larsen Jesper, with the assistance of his company F3 Mediagroup, has worked as my sponsor manager since 2006. Back then my income from sponsorships was very limited, but with Jesper’s help it has risen significantly, especially since I made the move to Ironman, which seems to be a better product to sell.
Bjørn Dan Andersen Bjørn is one of Denmark’s most gifted and experienced physiotherapists. With a mix of traditional physiotherapy, kinesiology and some self-developed methods he is the one person I rely on to get my body 100% ready for big races. Bjørn has followed me to races like IM Hawaii, IM China, Challenge Roth, Beijing Olympics and ITU World Cup Des Moines.
Anita Tønder Henning Experience has taught me that if things are not working well at home, my performance won’t be great. Anita has been around for over 10 years, since the early days of my career, and much thanks to her sacrifices, I have been able to pursue my dreams. I hope that in time I’ll have the opportunity to help her pursue her dreams as well. Together we have two amazing children, Caroline and Emilie, and it’s safe to say that without the three of them I wouldn’t be the happy man I am today.
ProPrint This printing business, owned by legendary Fredericia race organizer Ole Nikolajsen, helps me make and print beautiful signature card and posters, plus help me with other graphical work.
